More than 14,000 athletes from 387 schools are participating in venues spread across the city
Ahmedabad 20 November 2024: The SFA Championships 2024 Ahmedabad flagged off on a high note today, with exciting action in swimming, kho-kho, and football setting the stage for an intense week of competition. Swimming stole the spotlight on Day 1, as Udgam School for Children, Thaltej, delivered a stellar performance to secure the top spot. Dominating the pool, Udgam bagged eight golds, one silver, and three bronze medals, amassing 46 points—an impressive 26-point lead over second-placed Anand Niketan School.
Day 1 of the swimming competition also underlined individual brilliance, with Ayaan Narang of Udgam School leading the charge. Ayaan clinched two gold medals, winning the boys’ U-14 100m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke events. In the girls’ U-14 category, Mannat Mulchandani from St. Xavier’s School impressed with a gold in the 100m Backstroke, while Jelina VikrantkumarLimbachiya of Apollo International School secured the top spot in the 100m Breaststroke, rounding off a spectacular opening day in the pool.
Sports For All (SFA) is committed to professionalising, organising, and monetising grassroots sports, aiming to foster a culture that values and invests in sports nationwide. The championships this year will run until November 26, roping in participants from across Ahmedabad in a hunt for the best talents. This year, an impressive 14,764 athletes, aged 3 to 18, from 387 schools are participating in the event.
Later in the day, thrilling performances continued in the pool with standout winners across categories. Hridaan Shah of Nirma Vidyavihar clinched gold in the boys’ U-16 50m Freestyle, while Niharica Mishra of Shanti Asiatic School took the top spot in the girls’ event. In the U-10 50m Butterfly, Nidhaan Anand of Gems Genesis International School triumphed in the boys’ category, and Aarushi Shah of Ahmedabad International School secured gold in the girls’ race.
The SFA Championships 2024 will bring an exciting lineup of competitions to Ahmedabad. The event will feature a range of sports, including Athletics, Badminton, Football, Chess, Kabaddi, Karate, Swimming, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Yogasana. Moreover, the Championships will also celebrate two special days in this year’s event in Ahmedabad, with November 22nd designated as ‘Coach Day’ and November 24th as “She is Gold” Day, dedicated to celebrating women in sports.
