Tata Motors Foundation’s Integrated Village Development Programme Empowers 19,000 Lives in Gujarat

  • Mobilises  government schemes to strengthen livelihoods and essential services in Sanand and Dholka blocks

AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 10th JUNE 2026 | Strengthening its flagship Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP) in Gujarat, Tata Motors Foundation has positively impacted  19,000 lives and facilitated the convergence of government schemes across Sanand and Dholka blocks. The initiative marks the replication of the company’s proven convergence-led rural development model that aligns with the central and state government schemes,  strengthening local governance, expanding access to essential services and catalysing sustainable and community-driven transformation at the grassroots.

Uplifting rural and tribal communities around its manufacturing facility in Sanand, Tata Motors Foundation has replicated the Integrated Village Development Programme in two villages of Navapara and Nana Shahpur to alleviate poverty, enhance household incomes and curb distress migration. Partnering with Dharti Charitable Trust, Tata Motors Foundation engaged with the primitive tribal communities in Navpara, once a barren hamlet in Devathdal gram panchayat. IVDP has reduced migration by nearly 80% in Navpara by creating alternative livelihood opportunities and promoting local entrepreneurship. Rejuvenation of the existing dam has recharged over 150 borewells in the surrounding areas, significantly improving water availability and agricultural productivity. Interventions such as fisheries, organic kitchen gardens and eco-tourism has further strengthened resilience.

Building on this momentum, Tata Motors Foundation partnered with Ambuja Foundation to expand IVDP to the Dholka block, where communities faced challenges such as mono‑cropping, soil degradation, limited healthcare access and limited livelihood opportunities. The programme covers six villages – Khatripur, Ambethi, Andhari, Virpur, Bhetawada and Nesda – through targeted interventions such as water resource management, livelihood diversification, women’s self-help groups, improved access to healthcare and education, and youth skill development, advancing the goal of self-sustaining villages in Gujarat.

Commenting on the initiative, Vinod Kulkarni, CEO, Tata Motors Foundation, said: “The Integrated Village Development Programme is a sustainable, expandable and replicable model of rural development that has delivered transformative and measurable outcomes. The programme has directly benefited 19,000 lives in Sanand and Dholka blocks by strategically aligning social interventions with the existing government schemes. The expansion of the programme in Gujarat reflects our commitment to developing a community-owned, scalable framework for sustainable rural transformation in the state.”

Launched in 2018, the Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP) has evolved into a national model for rural development and community self-reliance, spanning nearly 200 villages across 103 gram panchayats in 5 states. In FY 2025-26, the programme positively impacted over 1,15,000 people and aligned with 50 government welfare schemes worth Rs 20 crore to strengthen grassroots governance and institutional capacity while ensuring access to public resources. While the government welfare architecture is extensive, IVDP bridges the last mile by strengthening local institutions, closing documentation gaps and building the governance capacity that allows villages to sustain progress independently.
